Overview

Our client, a global leader in , operates in over 85 countries, serving industries such as food and beverage, personal care, healthcare, industrial and automotive. With a legacy spanning over a century, they have been a trusted name in packaging innovation. Since 2011, HCLTech has been their strategic partner, driving Oracle modernization initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and support global growth.

The challenge

Overcoming legacy system limitations

Our client’s on-prem Oracle E-Business Suite reached the end of its lifecycle, resulting in performance degradation and scalability challenges. Operating across more than 200 manufacturing facilities worldwide, the organization required 24/7 system availability to support critical operations. However, prolonged downtimes during patching and maintenance, coupled with high costs of scaling the on-prem infrastructure, hindered efficiency. Additionally, regular data archiving posed significant operational challenges, impacting the organization’s ability to maintain seamless global operations.

The challenge

The objective

Building a future-ready Oracle environment

The client aimed to modernize their Oracle E-Business Suite by transitioning to (OCI) to achieve enhanced performance, scalability and availability. The goal was to implement a solution that minimized disruptions to daily operations, ensured robust and supported the organization’s global footprint. By leveraging OCI, the client sought to eliminate performance bottlenecks, streamline maintenance processes and enable cost-efficient scalability to meet future business demands.

objective

The solution

A strategic migration to OrOCI

HCLTech’s OCI ‘move and improve’ methodology provided a structured approach to modernize the client’s Oracle E-Business Suite. Through a phased discover-migrate-manage process, HCLTech ensured a seamless transition to OCI, delivering a future-proof cloud architecture tailored to the client’s needs. The solution included:

  • Discover phase: Conducted a comprehensive assessment of the client’s on-prem Oracle environment, analyzing hardware, software, configurations and workload requirements. HCLTech evaluated performance needs, security protocols and compliance standards to design a tailored migration strategy, prioritizing workloads and identifying necessary upgrades.
  • Migrate phase: Established an OCI tenancy, configuring essential resources such as virtual cloud networks, subnets, security lists, route tables and gateways. HCLTech provisioned OCI instances optimized for the client’s compute, storage and networking requirements. The migration included transferring the client’s RAC database to Exadata Cloud Service (ExaCS) on OCI, utilizing DataGuard technology to enable offline capabilities for critical applications. Additional applications, including servers, web servers and middleware, were migrated and upgraded to ensure compatibility with OCI.
  • Manage phase: Implemented continuous monitoring and optimization of the OCI environment to ensure cost efficiency, performance and security. HCLTech established robust backup and disaster recovery strategies, optimized compute and storage allocations and regularly evaluated new Oracle Cloud features to enhance system capabilities.

The impact

Driving operational excellence and scalability

The migration to OCI transformed the client’s Oracle E-Business Suite, delivering significant improvements in performance, security and operational efficiency. The modernized environment empowered the organization to support its global operations with greater agility and cost-effectiveness. Key outcomes included:

  • Enhanced availability: Enabled online patching, ensuring support 24/7 operations for global users and uninterrupted revenue-generating activities during maintenance.
  • Improved performance: Achieved significantly faster system performance, eliminating bottlenecks and enhancing user productivity across 200+ facilities.
  • Cost efficiency: Streamlined operations reduced infrastructure costs, while optimized resource management minimized compute and storage expenses.
  • Robust security and recovery: Strengthened data security and implemented comprehensive disaster recovery strategies, ensuring business continuity.
  • Business process optimization: Eliminated customizations, introduced ECC dashboards for advanced reporting and analytics, automated accounts payable invoicing and improved credit management and receivables processes.
  • Scalability for growth: Established a flexible, cloud-based architecture capable of handling increasing workloads and supporting future expansion.

The solution provides a foundation for continuous improvement with opportunities to integrate advanced analytics and further optimize global operations, ensuring that the client remains agile and competitive in a dynamic market.
